I have been an editor for more than 10 years; my specialities are scientific and medical academic texts, but I have experience in many different subjects and in many different formats. I have worked for clients such as Wiley Interscience, Elsevier Science, Georgetown University Press, Iowa State Press, the University of Chicago, and various individual authors—helping with projects such as magazines, journals, books, news articles, and Web pieces. I am accustomed to tagging in SGML and using publisher-specific templates. I am experienced with many styles including APA, AMA, and Chicago and adjust easily to in-house style requirements. I am an expert copyeditor, proofreader, and author's editor. A copyeditor is someone who reads a text for clarity, consistency, and accuracy. He or she pays special attention to grammar and punctuation, paying less attention to substantive editing, or editing for content. A proofreader reads a text, comparing it with a marked-up copy, making sure that all corrections have been made accurately. Another type of proofreading is a "cold read" or "fresh eyes." This involves reading through an edited, and usually typeset, manuscript and looking for glaring errors and layout issues. An author's editor reads a text before it has been submitted to a publisher. This editor is someone who looks carefully at flow, word choice, grammar, punctuation, and so forth, bringing the author's attention to any recurring problems.
